Christina :
My husband and I just bought a house. The main section of the back yard is fenced in by a tall brown fence. The yard is rectangle, and the in-ground pool takes up 85% of that space. There is a path of yard about 5 feet wide and 20-25 feet long between the pool and the fence.
Does anyone have any ideas of how to make that grassy space look cute (flowers, yard decorations, etc) without making the space feel cluttered?

Use a ground cover like ivy or periwinkle.
You can do many things with small spaces, if it is in a shady area hosta along any path is Beautiful. If it is in a sunny location day lilies and tulips on both sides of the path, also put down stepping stones along the path. As another reader suggested ground covering are nice, that would require stepping stones.
The idea is to wake the path up without cluttering it.
Good luck
Plant a very small garden.
A small back yard does not have to be just a patch of grass devoid of landscaping elements. There are many things that can be done to help it look nice.
